Open Courseware

Managing the Digital Enterprise is the cornerstone project of the Open Courseware Laboratory begun in 1998 at North Carolina State University. The term “open courseware” applies to educational material that is made publicly available for individual use without charge, typically via the web. Open courseware builds upon the longstanding tradition among scholars of sharing information to advance the frontier of knowledge.

The site adheres to the following set of principles:

  • OPEN ALL THE TIME

To provide an educational resource that is available year round, whenever a student may need it.

  • OPEN EVERYWHERE

To provide a resource that reaches across geographic, organizational, and national boundaries.

  • OPEN TO EVERYONE

To provide a resource that is open to everyone who has access to the web.

  • OPEN TO COLLABORATION

To provide a resource that engages scholars and practitioners in a collaborative learning community.

  • OPEN TO CHANGE

To provide a resource that changes continually to reflect the latest knowledge in research and practice.

  • OPEN-MINDED

To provide a resource that presents diverse points of view.

  • OPEN ARCHITECTURE

Lastly, to provide an educational resource that is open by design. It is both open and depends upon the openness of the web to create educational value.
