MANAGING THE DIGITAL ENTERPRISE
OPEN COURSEWARE INITIATIVE
What does the Web need most now? "Openness" -- Tim Berners-Lee [ Science Friday interview, 11.01.2002 ]
Managing the Digital Enterprise is a project of the Open Courseware Lab begun in 1998 at North Carolina State University. The term "open courseware" applies to educational material that is made publicly available for individual use without charge, typically via the web. Open courseware follows the traditional ethic among scholars of sharing information to advance the frontier of knowledge.
The site strives to adhere to the following set of principles:
To provide an educational resource that is available year round, whenever a student may need it.
To provide a resource that reaches across geographic, organizational, and national boundaries.
To provide a resource that is open to everyone who has access to the web.
To provide a resource that engages scholars and practitioners in collaborative learning community.
To provide a resource that continually changes to reflect the latest developments in research and practice.
To provide a resource that presents diverse points of view.
Lastly, to provide an educational resource that is open by design. It is both open and depends upon the openness of the web to create educational value.
